Our Mission

Central Green Mission Statement

“To be good stewards of God’s earthly realm we must lead the way within our community of faith on Angell Street – and beyond”

In considering all matters before our church committees and through our church leadership we will strive to:

  1. Honor our commitment to be faithful stewards of God’s earth.
  2. Conduct our church activities in ways that will conserve the earth’s resources, and preserve, protect and restore the environment.
  3. Develop new ideas for doing routine tasks that are consistent with this mission.
  4. Lead in our community of faith and the wider community on issues of importance in order to fulfill our duty as stewards of the earth.
  5. Recognize that the task requires that the church assume a leadership role, and that doing the right thing may not align with doing the most cost effective thing.

And once we do this, we must do it again, and again. This mission represents an ongoing commitment to consider how our stewardship of God’s earth must be considered in everything we do in our church, our homes, and our communities.

Central Green Proposed Action Plan

Phase I. Raise Awareness

  • Publish the mission.
  • Connect the committees to the mission, to the Green Committee, and to each other.
  • Create the “bug” and develop the comprehensive campaign that will consistently reinforce the message.
  • Establish a baseline for measuring change.

Phase II. Take Steps to Change

  • Take action on changes to how and what we do.
  • Empower committees and people to act. The green process should be as decentralized as possible allowing people to “just do it” when the benefits are high and the costs low. But provide guidance and a central point of understanding and ‘wisdom’ through the Green Committee.
  • Consolidate our internal and external resources to provide help and expertise.
  • Establish a Green Committee review process to review and approve particular suggestions for change such as: (1) those requiring significant resources; (2) those requiring coordinated church-wide approach, (3) those whose benefits are not easily known or evaluated; or (4) those that are otherwise controversial.

Phase III Extend the Mission through Leadership

  • Extend our reach to families and to the wider external community
  • Engage our community of faith in Advocacy
