Claudia’s book group will discuss “Vanderbilt, The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty,” by Anderson Cooper and Katherine Howe. The son of a ferryman, Cornelius Vanderbilt built a fortune in shipping and railroads, becoming the richest man in America. That fortune, fought over by his heirs, helped create an American dynasty that redefined the meaning of excess in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They’ll meet in the Fireplace Room.
