Sensational Science

Thursday, Feb. 23, 2 pm

Sensational Science is for children who are curious and like to try new things – and who are on school break. We’ll discover what happens when we combine different substances. We may fill a balloon with carbon dioxide, make slime, oobleck, or even elephant toothpaste! Space is limited, so please sign up through the church office. For more information, speak with Judy. We’ll meet in the Church School Wing.

Mozart Requiem

Friday, Feb. 24, 6:30 pm
Sunday, Feb. 26, 4 pm

On Friday, Jim Silverthorn, Central’s resident cinephile, will screen “Amadeus” – 1984 Best Picture – providing entertaining background into the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart … in preparation for Sunday’s performance of Mozart’s “Requiem.” Bring hors d’oeuvres to share before the movie. On Sunday, our Choir will perform under the direction of Patrick Aiken, organist/choirmaster, with soloists and orchestra. A brief prologue precedes the
concert, and a reception follows in Chapel Hall.

Joint Strategy Meeting

Sunday, Feb. 12, 11:30 am

Black History Month

Friday, Feb. 3, 11 am

In honor of Black History Month, Hamilton House is hosting a retrospective of American racial and gender equality struggles, breakthroughs, sharing culture, and experiences through cultural, social, and political lenses. In addition to traditional speakers, the series features storytellers, documentary producers, and interpretive performances.  This Friday, Keith Stokes, from Providence’s Office of Economic Opportunity, will discuss the city’s reparations initiative in “Closing the Racial Wealth Gap.”

Soup Kitchen Volunteers

Wednesday, Feb 1, 6:30 am

Every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 am, Central volunteers meet in the Amos House kitchen to assemble pre-packaged breakfasts. We know it’s early, but we really need more volunteers. If you can help, please contact Tracy Baran (tmoorf@gmail.com) and join us at 460 Pine Street in Providence. Since 1976, Amos House has helped people help themselves out of oppression, homelessness, and poverty through vital services and results-oriented programs.

Crossroads Snack Brigade

Sunday, Jan. 29, 10:30 am

This is the final week of our January Snack Brigade. Central will deliver fresh fruit and pre-packaged snacks to Crossroads Rhode Island, since they don’t have Sunday food service for their more than 200 clients. If you’ve signed up to donate food, please leave it in the designated boxes in the coatroom. Thanks for your generous contributions! And remember: the Snack Brigade will be back in July.
