Second Sunday of Advent

Sunday, Dec. 5, 10:30 am

Advent – a word that means “coming” – challenges us to look backward and prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem and remember the real meaning of Christmas. It also asks us to look forward to the Christ who continues to come into our lives and our world. We will celebrate this Second Sunday of Advent with the lighting of two candles – hope and peace – in our Advent wreath.

The Carol Service is On!

Sunday, Dec. 19, 4 pm

This year, we are delighted to present our annual Carol Service – live and in person. Once again, we will hear the story of the birth of Christ unfold in scripture and song.  And, our choirs will sing accompanied by harp, cello, and organ. While safety precludes serving the traditional Silver Tea, we will host a festive reception in Chapel Hall after the service. Please note:  because we expect attendance to exceed our COVID-19 capacity limit of 400, we will require proof of vaccination from all who attend.

WORD

Sunday, Nov. 28, 12 noon

Central’s ninth through twelfth graders will either enjoy an afternoon of S.P.A.M. – soda, pizza, and a movie – or a Mystery Meet, where they will explore a serious topic through a series of activities. The topic is the mystery, and the teens will not know what it is until they meet and begin working on it.

First Sunday of Advent

Sunday, Nov. 28, 10:30 am

This Sunday marks the beginning of the season of Advent.  Advent – a word that means “coming” – challenges us to look backward and prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. It also asks us to look forward to the Christ who continues to come into our lives and our world. We will celebrate this First Sunday of Advent with the sacrament of communion and the lighting of the first candle in our Advent wreath.

Meals on Wheels

Since 1969, this organization has worked to help our state’s homebound older adults live independently in their own homes by providing them with complete and nutritious meals, vital safety checks, and critical opportunities for socialization.  Meals are delivered Monday through Friday between 10 am and 2 pm. For more information and a volunteer application, visit www.rimeals.org or call 401-351-6700.

Construction Update

With asbestos abatement completed, workers have laid quarter-inch plywood in preparation for Chapel Hall’s new wood floor, which will have a contrasting border. The dual staircase leading to the balcony has been roughed in.  Much of the old electric wiring has been removed. And the decorative volutes – the spiral, scroll-like ornaments at the top of the gallery-side columns – have been removed so we can cast replicas for additional columns.  Check out our Construction Photo Ablum every week to see the progress.
