Good Friday Service of Tenebrae

Friday, Apr. 18, 7 pm

Central’s contemplative Service of Tenebrae (Latin for “darkness”) recalls the Crucifixion through scripture and music. The readings take us from the betrayal of Christ through His death on the cross. This profound service ends in quiet and total darkness. The Central Congregational Church Choir will sing “O vos Omnes” by Pablo Cassals (1876-1973) and “Vinea Mea Electa” by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963). Children third grade and up are welcome to attend. Nursery care provided.

Central Men’s Group

Thursday, Apr. 17, 7:30 am

Open to all ages, Central Men’s Group is a monthly breakfast gathering – held on the third Thursday of each month – for fellowship and spirited conversation on topics ranging from current events and ethics to trends and shared experiences. Questions? Contact John Trevor. Please join us in the Fireplace Room.

Maundy Thursday / Communion

Thursday, Apr. 17, 7 pm

We’ll remember Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples by coming together as a community of faith to worship and celebrate Communion in Chapel Hall. We’ll reflect on the true meaning of sacrifice and love, as shown by Jesus during the Last Supper – as we let the spirit of Maundy Thursday remind us to cherish our loved ones and strengthen the bonds of friendship. Nursery care provided.

Good Friday Service of Music

Friday, Apr. 18, 12 noon

At this year’s Good Friday Service of Music, the Central Congregational Church Choir – conducted by Patrick Aiken, organist/choirmaster – presents “Requiem” by Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924). The seven movements are scored for choir, soprano and baritone soloists, and organ. Noted for its gentle tone, Faure’s Requiem focuses on consolation and the hope of eternal life rather than sadness. And the final movement, the ethereal “In Paradisum,” will remind you of a choir of angels.
