In the Gallery

September 2024

This September, the Gallery will present “Robert O. Thornton: Favorites – A Retrospective Exhibit in Honor of His 101st Birthday.” Mr. Thornton (yes, that’s Peter Thornton’s dad) painted nights and weekends while working as the RISD Museum photographer. His paintings were shown annually at the RISD Faculty Exhibition until his retirement in 1992 – and he has had many private sales along the way. Meet the artist at the opening reception on Friday, Sep. 6, 5 to 7 pm.

Last Week of Summer Worship

Sunday, Sep. 1, 10 am

This is the last week of Summer Worship – with services and church school beginning at 10 am.  However, for those who are travelling and unable to attend Sunday Worship, Senior Minister Patrick Faulhaber is offering an opportunity to engage with the weekly service – which, as with every aspect of our faith together, is meant to be a cooperative practice. Be on the lookout for his weekly emails: “Notes for the Journey!” And, get ready for Gathering Sunday!

Trip to Old Sturbridge Village

Saturday, Aug. 24

This month, CCC Youth will take a day trip to Old Sturbridge Village, the largest living history museum in the Northeast, celebrating life in early New England from 1790 to 1840 (www.osv.org). They will enjoy the sights and sounds of times gone by and support one of our own, Ellie Hopkins, who is working there this summer! Contact Susannah (470-223-0337) for details or to RSVP.

Religious Education Clean-Out Day

Sunday, Aug. 25, 3 pm

If you have been in Central’s Education Wing recently, you will have noticed it needs some freshening up! Please join Susannah and the Religious Education Committee in reviving and updating this space. There will be jobs for all ages, so bring the kids! We recommend wearing work clothes and closed-toed shoes. We’ll be lifting and moving things, so you’re sure to get a bit dusty and dirty. And don’t worry, we will provide snacks! We’ll work until 6 pm.
