Family Service Day
Saturday, Nov. 30, 12:30 pm
Central families and friends are invited to join CCC Youth at Church Beyond the Walls for worship and lunch. This remarkable street-church community builds solidarity among people from all walks of life: housed and unhoused, poor and privileged, churched and unchurched. Questions? Contact Susannah. We’ll meet at 275 North Main Street in Providence – and should be finished by 2 pm.
Interfaith Thanksgiving Service
Tuesday, Nov. 27, 7 pm
This year, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church (50 Orchard Avenue, Providence) will host Providence’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Service. The service brings diverse congregations together in thanksgiving, while also celebrating and generating greater understanding of our differences and similarities. In the past, as many as 14 Providence congregations have participated, so bring your friends and neighbors! It’s wonderful to worship together, give thanks, and reflect on the many gifts we receive as part of a diverse, interfaith community.
Festival Thanksgiving Sunday
Sunday, Nov. 24, 10:30 am
Central’s Festival Service of Thanksgiving is always warm, wonderful, and so musical – the perfect time to share our community with a friend, neighbor, or colleague. We have a lot to be grateful for this year: a wonderful new senior minister and a reenergized religious education program – just to name two. Please come for Worship, bring a friend, and then stay after to enjoy our wonderful community of faith during Coffee Hour.
Festival Sunday Decor
Deliver Nov. 17 to 20
At our Festival Service of Thanksgiving, on Nov. 24, the Flower Committee will decorate the chancel and communion table. They hope to make the festivities more meaningful by displaying items grown or contributed by Central members and friends. They need pumpkins, winter squash and gourds (all sizes and varieties), large mums, and dried corn. Please place donations in the marked box near the Diman Place sanctuary entrance.
Portrait Unveiling
Sunday, Nov. 10, 11:30 am
This Sunday, following Worship, Central will unveil the portrait of Minister Emerita Rebecca L. Spencer, which will hang in the Fireplace Room in honor of her 35 years of service to Central. The portrait was painted by artist Susan Starkweather. Susan and her husband, Winn Major, have been Central members since 1980, and Susan is a longtime member of the Gallery Committee. Please join us in the Fireplace Room.
A Quiet Morning
Saturday, Nov. 9, 8:30 am
Please join us for a peaceful, autumn “mini-retreat” at beautiful Hamilton House. We’ll begin with light breakfast conversation about the spiritual practice of breath prayers as well as some quiet time. Then, we’ll end our Quiet Morning by sharing in holy communion. Please RSVP to Claudia. We should be finished by 11:30 am.
