Gallery Opening

Come, meet the artist! This month, the Gallery will showcase the work of Amy Goldstein: acrylic and watercolor paintings and charcoal drawings. A retired genetic counselor, Amy started studying watercolor several years ago at Providence’s Handicraft Club, using a paint palette inherited from her mother, and later branched out into acrylic painting and charcoal drawing. She and her husband live in Providence and have two grown children.

Sensational Science

Thursday, Feb. 23, 2 pm

Sensational Science is for children who are curious and like to try new things – and who are on school break. We’ll discover what happens when we combine different substances. We may fill a balloon with carbon dioxide, make slime, oobleck, or even elephant toothpaste! Space is limited, so please sign up through the church office. For more information, speak with Judy. Mozart Requiem

On Friday, Jim Silverthorn, Central’s resident cinephile, will screen “Amadeus” – 1984 Best Picture – providing entertaining background into the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart … in preparation for Sunday’s performance of Mozart’s “Requiem.” Bring hors d’oeuvres to share before the movie. On Sunday, our Choir will perform under the direction of Patrick Aiken, organist/choirmaster, with soloists and orchestra. A brief prologue precedes the
concert, and a reception follows in Chapel Hall.

Joint Strategy Meeting

This month, the Leadership Development and Membership Committees will meet together in the Fireplace Room for a robust brainstorming session.  The objective is to generate a range of creative ideas and effective strategies for increasing Central’s membership and attendance – as well as for strengthening our church community overall.

Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, Hamilton House is hosting a retrospective of American racial and gender equality struggles, breakthroughs, sharing culture, and experiences through cultural, social, and political lenses. In addition to traditional speakers, the series features storytellers, documentary producers, and interpretive performances.  This Friday, Keith Stokes, from Providence’s Office of Economic Opportunity, will discuss the city’s reparations initiative in “Closing the Racial Wealth Gap.”
