Central Men’s Group

Thursday, March 19, 7:30 am

Open to all ages, Central Men’s Group is a monthly breakfast gathering – held on the third Thursday of each month – for fellowship and spirited conversation on topics ranging from current events and ethics to trends and shared experiences. Questions? Contact John Trevor. Please join us in the Fireplace Room.

Sewing Circle

Saturday, March 21, 10 am

Central’s sewing circle repairs, upcycles, and repurposes items – for themselves and for charity. They’ll have mending projects, sewing machines, an ironing board, and other supplies – or you are welcome to bring your own. If you’re not a great sewer, don’t worry. All skill levels are welcome. And an experienced seamstress will be on hand to help. Contact Amy Hebb with any questions. Join us in the Fireplace Room.

An Interfaith Gathering

Monday, Mar. 9, 7 pm

During Lent, seven Providence congregations – including Central Congregational Church – are sponsoring Off of Hope: A Gathering of Interfaith Partners, a special event designed to build community with care and compassion. Courtney Nicolato, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Rhode Island, will be the guest speaker. Please join us at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church (50 Orchard Avenue, Providence).

Tuesdays With Scripture

Tuesday, Mar. 10, 8 am

Central’s weekly community devotional is back! On Tuesday morning, we’ll get together virtually to discuss a short Bible passage. Each session is self-contained. So you can come to one or to all of them! Everyone is welcome. Contact Claudia for a Zoom invitation (claudia@centralchurch.us). And, she’ll also send you the reading and questions to consider ahead of time.

Friday Film Fare

Sensitive widow Rose and her teenage son move to a Montana ranch owned by her new husband and his brother Phil. A battle of wills erupts between new family members and the brutish Phil. Based on Thomas Savage’s novel, The Power of the Dog (2021) is subtle but unrelenting in exploring the motives and depth of the male psyche. [126 minutes; color; rated R] Join host Jim Silverthorn in the Fireplace Room.

Community Care Conversation

Monday, Mar. 2, 6 pm

Central’s second Community Care Conversation – “Unpacking Christian Nationalism” – is an ideal follow-up to the 2026 Darrell West Lecture. Kristin DeKuiper, attorney and founder of Central’s Toward Better Christian Politics group; Bill Kole, author of “In Guns We Trust”; and Central senior minister Patrick Faulhaber will spearhead the conversation. RSVP to the Church Office (401.331.1960 / info@centralchurch.us) so we have adequate food and seating – and join us in Chapel Hall.
