Do you have news for the September newsletter? We welcome your input – whether for a feature story or news brief. Provide basic information in bullet form – who, what, where, when, and why – or write it yourself. We can use photos too. Email submissions to Antonia Greco (antonia@centralchurch.us) and Nick Collins (nicholas@centralchurch.us).
Summer Bible Study
Sunday, Aug. 17, 9 am
This summer, Claudia’s Bible Study Group explores The Gospel of Luke, the third of four Gospels relating the origins, birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. Luke stands out from other Gospels with its emphasis on inclusivity, historical context, and literary style. It also focuses on the marginalized and offers broader historical context. Come to one session or to all of them. Join us in the Fireplace Room for this week’s topic: “The Gospel.”
Lunch at Aleppo Sweets
Sunday, Aug. 17, 12 noon
Join Central friends after Worship for an authentic Syrian repast. Check out the café menu (www.alepposweets.com/cafe-menu). And, don’t forget to save room for the baklava! Please RSVP to Claudia. We’ll meet at Aleppo Sweets (107 Ives Street, Providence).
Summer MIDWEEK
Wednesday, Aug 13, 6 pm
Mark your calendar: Join us in Chapel Hall for Summer MIDWEEK, a special monthly program for kids, teens, and adults alike. We will share a meal at 6 pm as usual and then turn our attention to a story of our faith from the Bible. We’ll end the evening on the West Lawn, making s’mores around the firepit. If you like, bring a chair or blanket for comfier lawn seating.
Providence Children’s Museum
Sunday, Aug. 17, 2 pm
Families with children of all ages are invited to play and create at the Providence Children’s Museum. Explore the swirling ways of water, learn about plants, take a time-traveling adventure, and even create a blue-block world that goes beyond the imagination. Admission is $17 each – but only $14 for groups of five. So invite some friends, RSVP to Cristina, and let’s have some fun together! We’ll meet at the museum (100 South Street, Providence).
Flower Committee Vacancies
The Flower Committee needs your help! This committee is responsible for flower arrangements during Worship, but also has another, equally important, mission: building community! After services, committee members bring these flowers to Centralites who can no longer join us on Sundays or who have lost loved ones – a tangible reminder that they are not forgotten. Please join us in this very rewarding endeavor. Contact the Church Office, Beverly Haviland, or Cheryl Ludwig.
